I have been neglecting my blog, sorry. I have many reasons/excuses to give and 3 words to summarise them.
Life, volcanoes and death.
LIFE
In my desire to get past my ‘downer’ and follow the good advice of my friends following my drunken ramble......’get on with it’, ‘come home’, ‘sort yourself out’, ‘we will still love you’
I may have made the last one up.
I threw myself into doing stuff. I wasn’t fussy and thankfully our visitors arrived to enable me to reign in my madness.
I even started talking to some locals....and found them mildly pleasant. J
VOLCANO
Our visitors for 2 weeks (initially) were the Hall family. Gareth very kindly set up our surround sound, talked Weber barbeques and pizza stones with Matt.
Hannah and Theo played beautifully with our monkeys, teaching them some good old british sharing and manners.
And Roo managed to watch all 4 kids several times for me....during their extended 3 ½ weeks holidays.
They go home tomorrow, via business class – maybe BA havent lost their customer service?!?! and I dont think they could have got more out of their holibobs.
So ta lots for our 1st year in the US anniversary margaritas....VERY well made and very welcome.
In return when we come home we will be moving in with them for an extended period of time. J
Wendy only came to stay for 24 hours, enroute home from a Vegas conference. 7 days later she managed to squeeze her way on to a flight via New York home.
Her boys were almost beside themselves. I need to thank them for lending her to me. A LOVELY extended girlie chat time.
And in true Wendy style some well thought out common sense advice and humour. Rachel, you would have been proud of her. J
(see you next year Wendy...with Ali and Will J )
Both sets of visitors provided me with a LOVELY distraction and a needed reminder of how beautiful it is here and how lucky I am.
DEATH
My Nana, mums mum, had been in hospital for the last 3-4 weeks. For the 2 months before she was in and out of reality with alarming frequency.
For a lass who was to be 96 in May she had come back from the edge so many times I had thought she would do it again.
10 days ago she appeared to recover and asked for a cigarette. The stubborn gene in the Dempsey females runs strong. I breathed a sigh of relief and hoped for a speedy recovery.
It was not to be and she passed on on Sunday. The funeral is tomorrow and I am stuck here due to above Volcano unable to go home and properly send her on.
AKA I will miss a hell of a wake. My sister arrives on Friday. My hope is for us to have our own goodbye.
I have several blogs to pen to fill in the gaps for the last month. I have pictures and everything!!!.... J
So sorry to hear about you Nana Dee. Have a great picture in my head of Matt and the students! :-)
Will email properly very soon. XX
